We recently took some time in Wausau…
Located just 2 hours and 15 minutes north of Madison is Wausau. Wausau is a community worth exploring known for its outdoor recreation and something of a Midwest meets mountain town charm. With endless miles of trails to explore and local flavors to embrace it is a perfect place to spend a weekend getting outside during the day and refueling at night.

Coffee First
Located in the historic downtown, The Pinery Coffee Co. is a gem. They’ve got a good thing going with great coffee, amazing paninis, and a shop you’d like to sit in all day.
Another shop we loved was Tucknee Coffee Co. Their coffee helped fuel our Rib Mountain hike morning and the Everything Bagel with cream cheese did not miss.
Second Adventure
We spent a day hiking in Rib Mountain State Park as well as a small section of the nearby Ice Age Trail. Rib Mountain State Park is home to Granite Peak if you’ve ever skiied here. They’ve got miles of beautiful trails along the rocks and cliffs with huge sweeping views perfect for all seasons of adventure. Wausau has a ton to do from kayaking to mountain biking and hiking. Third Refuel
Forward Beverage Co. is another strong voice in the Non-Alcoholic drink world. With their “soft cocktails” and “social seltzers” they’re providing delicious mocktails that go down easy. We enjoyed sipping on their drinks while we reheated some of the pizza we got from Red Eye Brewing earlier in the day. We didn’t take any pictures of our food at Red Eye, we were too hungry I guess. The Red Eye Burger was honestly the best burger I’ve had in a while, with some really solid flavor combinations, and a Sausage and Pepperoni Pizza. Big ups to Red Eye on having a great crust with their pizzas.
